Why be taught, when you can learn?
Today, I came across this gem of a post by Seth Godin.
It's a short post but here's a key point he makes:
[W]henever we choose, we can learn something from what’s going on. We’re not getting taught, we’re choosing to learn. There’s a lesson in every interaction, if we want there to be.
What struck me was how Godin unpacks the choices we can make in the face of our experiences. The worst we could do is see ourselves as mere victims of our circumstances. A level above that is being taught by our experiences. Beyond that is what Godin is advocating: to actively choose to learn from whatever happens to and around us.
How much we grow from the things that happen to us lies in which of those choices we make.
I'm going to try to make that active choice to squeeze the juice out of whatever lemon rolls my way. What about you?
