Singapore’s stand against settlements
Singapore, being the small state that it is, has always been careful about the foreign policy statements it makes. But if even Singapore speaks out against something, you know it's really a problem. What more if it's in opposition to a country that it has historical ties of cooperation with. Like Israel.
Singapore has condemned Israel for its illegal settlement-building and the escalating settler violence. I appreciate Singapore taking a principled stand against Israel’s arrogant flouting of international laws.
To me, Israel’s approval and protection for settlements reveals the state’s true intention more than its claims of wanting peace. Its defenders can pull out a hundred statistics to refute my claim but they cannot refute the “facts on the ground”. As an anticolonialist, I detest attempts by countries to claim land that doesn’t belong to them for themselves. I hope more countries (but of course not US) will also speak out, like Singapore did.
