No one is reading your work
If this were true, would you still write?
The answer should be: yes!
I've been writing continuously for 144 days now and if there's one thing I realised, it's this:
How much time and effort I spent on a post often has no link to how well a post is received or how much traffic it generates. The "easy" link round-up post I write to keep my writing momentum can do better than a post I felt for and thought much about.
If readership is the only metric I use, then in the absence of it I might be tempted to either write to pander or stop writing. Both of which, ultimately don't serve me and my reason for writing.
I began this blog as space to refine my thoughts and to practise shipping. Even if no one reads it — and to a part of me it sometimes feels like I'm shouting into a void — writing here still fulfils my original intent. And so I keep writing for myself.
Maybe there's more to writing in a way that resonates, but what I do know is that it cannot involve pandering or stopping. As for what will work, your answer will be different from mine.
