In a recent episode of comics podcast Off Panel, host David Harper and comics critic Oliver Sava compare how DC and Marvel are doing. In their opinion (and mine), DC's creative output, comics-wise has been far more compelling than Marvel's in recent times.
One reason they discussed was Marvel's success (and DC's failure) on the big screen. With the immense MCU, Marvel's comics ended up bending to serve the movies and TV series, rather than the comics acting as the foundation for the other forms. DC on the other hand, having failed comparatively with the DCEU, was more willing (and had) to take risks and try new things.
Success can bring about its own downfall, if not handled properly.
