Mundane and miraculous as breath
This is a line I read in Absolute Martian Manhunter #4 by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez.
At first glance it might seem insignificant, but I think there’s a deeper truth here.
From one angle, there is nothing special about the breath. We all breathe on instinct and even ants do so.
Yet from another angle, it is a miracle to be sustained by a gas that is in the exact concentration that we need to survive. To even have evolved into beings that can breathe air…what are the odds of that?
Practitioners of meditation will remind us that the breath is both special and not-special at the same time. It is a tool that deepens their practice. Practice that seems so mundane, but creates a possibility of realising the beauty within.
Mundane and miraculous indeed.
