Moving on from Tyler Cowen
I used to read economist Tyler Cowen for what I thought were interesting ideas — not all of which I subscribed to, but at least they provided food for thought. I valued what seemed like that a rich source of ideas.
But as of last year, I’ve had this growing sense that he has become someone I can’t trust. I may not have Avery articulate reason why, apart from something doesn’t sit right with my gut. Perhaps it’s this niggling feeling that he knowingly provides intellectual cover for problematic ideas and people for self-serving reasons.
So I’m moving on from him and his writing — there are so many other worthwhile people and ideas to engage with. Maybe I’m entirely wrong but I find it hard to imagine this being something I’ll regret. (Famous last words?)
