Impressionism and astonishment

I want to astonish Paris with an apple. - Paul Cézanne

I came across Fruit and a Jug on a Table by Cézanne at National Gallery Singapore's exhibition titled Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

It's been a hit in Singapore drawing huge crowds which speaks to the pull that Impressionism still has long after its height in the 1870s.

I especially enjoyed many of Renoir and Monet's works. One thing that resonates with me is how Impressionism attempted to make people see the magic in the ordinary. To butcher Cézanne's words, art is meant to help us appreciate the beauty of something as small as an apple.
