I admit that I'm into comics
I came across Grizzly Gazette's post on Self-Flanderization and this part stood out to me:
If you have ever enjoyed seeing someone nerd out about a topic you know nothing about, you should know that others enjoy this about you as well.
This resonated with me especially because I've been thinking about how things could be if we accepted our interests, without the attendant baggage. I do this to some extent already, but Gazette's post was a nudge to be open in sharing even my otherwise niche interests.
Since I'm already writing this, I thought it might be a good idea to share comics I've enjoyed recently. I think it's more fun to do this, than to tell you — YOU NEED TO READ THIS BEFORE YOU DIE!!! No shoulds needed here.
(If any strike your fancy, pick up a copy a a local comic book store!)
Here are 3, in no particular order.
Assorted Crisis Events by Deniz Camp and Eric Zawadzki: A mind bending story that explores what happens if time is breaks. No superhero stuff here, but come for the crazy art and stay for its strongly beating heart.
Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez: If you've no idea who the Martian Manhunter is, that's okay. We follow a detective who is not the same after his accident. Strange things happen in his mind and we see it unfolding in Rodriguez's sublime art. The Martian Vision section of each issue is a blast.
Transformers by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer: This is a bit of a cheat entry, because Johnson is leaving the title and another writer is coming in. But 24 issues is a long run. And if you have any nostalgia for the old Transformers cartoon, this is a blast. There are real stakes to the story, even if you see robots shooting the hell out of each other.
