Get yourself: Marvel Unlimited
Reading comics these days can be expensive! Be it as single issues or collected editions, comics now cost more than they did when they were sold from spinner racks in supermarkets.
So if you want to catch up on runs in the past or just sample an issue here and there, all those physical copies you buy can add up. Enter digital subscriptions for comics – your best friend in expanding your comics horizons for an affordable price.
Now, I’m not saying that reading comics physically is a bad thing – I much prefer the reading experience with a book in hand. What I am saying is that digital subscriptions which allow you to read comics at a flat fee are a worthwhile addition to your digital library. One of these subscriptions that I tried out recently is Marvel Unlimited.
The UI isn’t perfect and there are gaps, but for a flat fee, you can read over 30,000 comics. The catch is that the latest issue you can read is from 3 months ago (unlike DC’s service…but it’s not available in Singapore, so I’m not even going there). But the 3 month gap isn’t a problem if you want to catch up with older runs, many of which are good, or dip in and out of titles you’re curious about. With a decent tablet, I’d say the reading experience is quite good.
I’ve been going through the Ultimates Universe collection of stories through the app on a 7-day trial run, and I think I’d give a subscription a go! Worth considering if you are a Marvel fan. But if you’re a DC fan or enjoy indie comics then you have subscription options for those too!
