Expect failed bakes

My wife and I tried our hand at baking today by starting off small. We used the microwave to make a simple chocolate mug cake. At the start, I felt a sense of uncertainty about how it would turn out, as I read somewhere that baking is about precision. But sensing my hesitation, my wife shared a quote she came across during her baking research: When baking, you’ve got to expect failed bakes.

It occurred to me that this was a mindset that was helpful even beyond baking. If you expect that you will mess up, then each supposed failure you experience then becomes a reminder that you’re still on the path of growth. Failure then loses that sting that stops so many of us from dreaming big

It’s a good reminder to myself as Monday comes around: expect failed bakes.

P.S. Improv also emphasises an attitude of embracing failure! (Connections everywhere.)
