Cinemas still matter
I often hear talk about how streaming will kill theatres. While I don’t think that’s the only reason, a number of movie theatre operators in Singapore have since closed down.
But even so, I think the cinema experience is one that still has value for many of us. To enter a new world in a darkened space and soaking in the atmosphere with others…there’s something about this immediacy that pause-anytime-streaming cannot replicate. Maybe a romantic argument, but as much as I love Stranger Things on Netflix, there’s no way I’m going to wait for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash to be released on the small screen.
